There's no escaping the Tre Cime di Lavaredo
The impressive peaks of the UNESCO World Heritage Tre Cime di Lavaredo - Dolomites, South Tyrolean flair and national borders steeped in history: off the beaten track, a paradise for gravel bikers spreads out before you! Whether on the mountain or in the valley - standing out strikingly against the dark lark forests, the three rugged mountain obelisks are always in view here in South Tyrol. A must-visit on every gravel biker‘s bucket list!
Gravel biking in the heart of the Dolomites
The region around the UNESCO World Heritage Tre Cime di Lavaredo - Dolomites can be discovered particularly well on and off asphalted roads. You are surrounded by a splendour of mountains and valleys every time you push the pedal.
Probably the most beautiful gravel bike tour in the region leads along the old railway line from Dobbiaco southwards through the Dolomite landscape to Cortina d'Ampezzo. Gentle climbs and wide gravel paths lead past the Dürrensee lake and onto the picturesque railway road. While you roll along the gravel road in a relaxed manner, you get to fully enjoy the surrounding peaks between the old railway tunnels. The old railway line also leads to the Prato Piazza. On old tar and coarse gravel, the tour quickly becomes sweat-inducing, before you reach the high plateau. At the top, as usual in South Tyrol, you are rewarded for your efforts with a stunning panorama. At the Plätzwiese mountain inn, local specialities such as barley soup and Kaiserschmarrn are already waiting for gravel bikers!
More gravel biking highlights can be enjoyed - or rather experienced - in the Silvestertal valley and at the Pragser Wildsee lake. Starting from the Silvesteralm, die-hard bikers really get what their heart desires: either continue uphill on the old military trail to the Marchkinkele or take an MTB single trail back down to Silian. It is more relaxed on the Pragser Wildsee lake - a real natural highlight and Instagram spot!
