The Hochkönig road bike region around the mountain village of Mühlbach in Salzburger Land awaits with exciting challenges in an impressive mountain landscape which compensates for every sweat-inducing exertion.
The Hochkönig road bike region, with its idyllic mountain village of Mühlbach where copper was mined 4,000 years ago already, is dominated by rugged rocks, green alpine pastures and picturesque forests. Mühlbach is situated directly at the Hochkönig Road at the base of the ascent to the Dienten Saddle, a mountain saddle in 1342 m above sea level in Salzburger Land. The road pass connects the village of Bischofshofen in Pongau with Saalfelden in Pinzgau.
If you want to clock up altitude metres and admire the glacier giants of the Hohe Tauern, then you should take the ascent to the historic Arthurhaus at the base of the Mandl mountains at the south-eastern flank of the Hochkönig Massif.
Highly recommended but also challenging is the tour from Mühlbach via the Dienten Saddle followed by the Filzen Saddle to Zell am See. From there you bike via Lend and Dienten back to Mühlbach. Starting from Mühlbach, you can also conquer the Grossglockner as highlight.
Some easier road bike tours lead via Bischofshofen to Tennengau and Pongau. Depending on ability level, you can vary them as you like.
