Hochtannberg Pass
The Hochtannberg Pass connects the Bregenzerwald with the Lechtal and offers a smooth, scenic ascent. Wide bends, mountain panoramas and the tranquil Kalbelesee lake make it ideal for connoisseurs. Perfect as part of a circular tour - quiet, with great views and sporty without extreme gradients.
The road bike tour to the Hochtannberg Pass is a scenic but technically moderate Alpine climb - ideal for leisure cyclists with mountain ambitions. The route climbs steadily via Schröcken up to the Hochtannberg Pass at 1,676 metres. The ascent is around 8.5 kilometres long and relatively even, with average gradients of 5-7%, without extreme ramps.
The road is well maintained and very scenic: lush meadows, rugged rock formations and views of the Lechtal and Allgäu Alps accompany you uphill. The section to Schröcken is particularly impressive with wide bends, galleries and the first views towards Warth. At the top of the pass, a magnificent panorama opens up over the Tannberg region - an ideal place for a short break. All in all, an enjoyable, low-traffic pass ride in one of the quieter corners of the Austrian Alps.

The ascent from Schoppernau is considered to be much more pleasant and scenic than the shorter ascent from Warth. The pass is ideal for endurance-orientated tours, e.g. combined with the Flexenpass, Arlbergpass or Lech.
About 1 km before the top of the pass, a small road branches off to the right to the Kalbelesee lake and on to the Alpmuseum uf'm Tannberg. This short, little-known section offers:
- Dream views of the Juppenspitze (2,412 m) and the Tannberg area
- Less traffic, as this is a side trail
- A quiet photo spot by the lake, especially when there is no wind (reflection!)
- Pass summit
- Lake Kalbelesee
- Bends near Schröcken
