Hahntennjoch
The ascent to the Hahntennjoch from Elmen in the Lechtal valley is one of the most challenging road bike routes in Tyrol: 970 metres in altitude over almost 15 km, a gradient of up to 12%, spectacular Alpine scenery and a winding, narrow road up to 1,894 m.
The ascent to the Hahntennjoch starts in the small village of Elmen in the Tyrolean Lech Valley and is one of the more challenging but scenically impressive road bike tours in the region. Over a distance of around 15 kilometres, the route climbs almost 1,000 metres in altitude to the 1,894 m high pass. The average gradient is around 7%, with some sections over 12%, especially in the middle section. The road is narrow, well tarmaced and winds its way through alpine rocky landscapes and high alpine meadows in a variety of bends.
Due to the narrow carriageway and the possibility of falling rocks, special care is required, especially at weekends with motorbike traffic. The view of the surrounding Lechtal Alps makes up for the effort - the view of the Pfafflar Valley just before the top of the pass is particularly impressive. At the top, a small bench invites you to take a break before the rapid descent towards Imst begins.
