Kranjska Gora
We start the road bike tour directly in front of the Hotel Ribno and cycle about 2 kilometres in the direction of Bled. Along the lake we reach the Bled Regatta Centre, which has twice hosted the World Rowing Championships. From there, we head up to the village of Gorje, where we turn off into the valley of the Radovna River - one of the clearest and cleanest rivers in the Gorenjska region, which also supplies Bled with drinking water. After around 10 kilometres through this unspoilt valley, there is a short but extremely steep climb of around 500 metres that takes us over Mojstrana. After a short descent, we reach the village where the Slovenian Alpine Museum is located. Mojstrana is considered the starting point of the first ascent of Triglav in 1778. From here, a cycle path leads about 20 kilometres through beautiful nature to Kranjska Gora, the famous venue of the Ski World Cup.
If you wish, you can cycle about 10 kilometres further to Planica, where the Ski Flying World Championships are held. Alternatively, there is a challenging 12 km ascent to the 1,600 m high Vršič Pass. The scenically spectacular ascent with an altitude difference of around 800 metres runs partly over granite paving. At the top of the pass, the view opens up to the Primorska region and the Soča valley. After this sporting challenge, the way back leads along the familiar route back to Bled - mostly downhill and pleasant to cycle.
