Brixen & Würzjoch
Road bike tour to Brixen and the Würzjoch Pass
You start at the Sporthotel Exclusive in the village centre of San Vigilio and turn right towards Marebbe. From there, follow the tarmac road to the pilgrimage site of Maria Saalen. Continue towards San Martino, where you cross the country road at the gravel pit and cycle along the Val Pusteria cycle path to the Bistro Lanz in Sciaves/Schabs. Leave the cycle path there and turn right onto the country road towards Schabs. The Neustift monastery with its imposing collegiate church is located on a gentle hill in front of the Brixen valley basin and is well worth a visit.
Continue along the main road past the episcopal town of Bressanone. Once you reach the district of Milland, the road winds its way up four hairpin bends to St. Andrä. Once there, you will be rewarded with a picturesque view of the Villnösser Geisler. From St. Andrä, the route continues quickly with gradients of mostly 8 %. The unique view over the Eisack Valley and Brixen rewards the strenuous climb. The route climbs steadily through densely overgrown coniferous forests. After a few hairpin bends, you reach the fork in the Villnöss road. The last 300 m of the ascent take you past colourful alpine meadows to the end of the tour: Würzjoch.
The Würzjoch lies at 2006 metres and connects the Gadertal with the Eisacktal. Treat yourself to a rest after the ascent and enjoy the view of the imposing Peitlerkofel. From the Würzjoch, the route continues quickly downhill to Untermoi and further out of the valley to St. Martin in Thurn. Follow the country road to Zwischenwasser and turn right there to St. Vigil.
