Würzjoch
The Würzjoch is one of the quieter Dolomite passes - with magnificent scenery and views of the Peitlerkofel. A steep, scenic road leads from St. Martin in Thurn up to the top of the pass. Ideal for anyone looking for nature, challenge and alpine tranquillity away from the main routes.
The road bike tour to the Würzjoch (Passo delle Erbe) from St. Martin in Thurn is scenic and challenging. Starting in St. Martin in Thurn (approx. 1,127 m), the route leads over around 14 kilometres with a climb of approx. 970 metres to the top of the pass at 1,982 m. The steep, narrow road winds past the historic Thurn Castle and is accompanied by watercourses and alpine meadows. The average gradient is around 7%, with individual ramps reaching up to 16-18% in intermediate passages.
Above the village centre, the route becomes quieter and offers impressive views down into the Val Badia and the Sass de Putia group. Shortly before the pass, you can enjoy picturesque views of Villnöss and the Lüsner Valley. Huts and freshly equipped rest areas await you at the top of the pass - ideal for a break with a panoramic view. All in all, a moderate but impressive Dolomite pass ride - ideal as a day highlight or part of a longer tour.

The Würzjoch lies at 1,982 metres above sea level and connects the Gadertal (St. Martin in Thurn) with the Villnößtal and the Lüsner Tal. It lies in the shadow of the striking Peitlerkofel, one of the westernmost mountains in the Dolomites - making it particularly photogenic. The pass is less well-known than Sella or Giau, but at least as challenging - especially the ramp from St. Martin with a gradient of 16-18% in places.
A real insider tip on the Würzjoch is the short detour to the Munt de Fornella mountain hut, just a few hundred metres after the top of the pass in the direction of Lüsen - ideal for a quiet break with a top panorama.
