Start and finish location
Hrib in the Slovenian Jezersko Valley

The road bike tour to the Seeberg Saddle starts in the small village of Hrib in Slovenia's Jezersko Valley - situated at around 880 metres and framed by the impressive rock faces of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. The gentle but steady ascent up to the Seeberg Saddle (Slovenian: Seebergska sedlo) at 1,218 m starts directly from the village centre. Around 800 metres in altitude with a steady 6-8% gradient await you over around 23.3 kilometres - ideal for a rhythmic climb.

The narrow road is well tarmaced and leads through dense forests, past the occasional mountain hut and, as the altitude increases, to sweeping views towards the Kamnik Alps. Particularly impressive: the view back down into the Jezersko valley. Shortly before the top of the pass, the vegetation thins out and an alpine high plateau opens up with striking boundary markings. Once at the top, you have a great photo point and, if visibility is good, a distant view towards Carinthia. A quiet, scenically impressive pass ride - perfect for connoisseurs and anyone who wants to get away from the big Dolomite classics.

What else there is to know about the Alpine Pass

Fancy a few side facts about the Alpine pass? We reveal insider tips, the best photo spots and everything else there is to know about the pass.

Worth knowing

The route was already used in Roman times as a connection between present-day Carinthia and the Sava Valley. In the 19th century, it was part of important trade and cattle routes across the Alps. Today's road was rebuilt in the 1950s, but remains deliberately narrow and close to nature.

Insider tip

In Jezersko there are small inns with regional cuisine, including Ajdovi žganci (buckwheat dish) or Savinjski želodec (air-dried sausage speciality).
