Monte Carpegna
Monte Carpegna is short, steep and legendary - a must for cycling fans. On Pantani's training mountain, you can expect 6 kilometres with a gradient of almost 10%, quiet forest roads and a memorial site with a panoramic view. Ideal for an intense ascent with history and great symbolic value.
The road bike tour up Monte Carpegna from the village of Carpegna is short, intense and full of history - a real pilgrimage climb for cycling fans. The small village lies at an altitude of around 750 metres. This is where the famous "Carpegna is enough" route starts, named after Marco Pantani's legendary training slogan ("Il Carpegna mi basta").
The actual climb begins a few kilometres outside Carpegna, with a signpost at the edge of the route. The ascent to the Passo Cantoniera and on to the Madonnina del Ciclista at around 1,360 metres leads over around 6 kilometres with an average gradient of 10% - sometimes significantly more. The road is narrow, well tarmaced and leads through dense forest. The last hairpin bends to the summit are particularly steep, but are marked with motivating Pantani quotes on the tarmac. At the top, a small rest area awaits you with a memorial stone to Pantani and sweeping views of the Marche and Emilia-Romagna.
The tour is short but intense - ideal as a training climb or symbolic feat of strength. If you still have reserves, you can continue over the Carpegna high plateau or add a longer loop through the Montefeltro area. A must for anyone who wants to experience Italian cycling history.
