Kitzbüheler Horn
The Kitzbüheler Horn challenges you with steep ramps and rewards you with breathtaking views of the Tyrolean Alps. An ideal destination for ambitious racing cyclists looking for solitude, altitude and a sporting challenge.
The road bike tour up the Kitzbüheler Horn is considered one of the toughest climbs in the Alps - short, extremely steep and legendary. The starting point is the timekeeping centre at the foot of the Kitzbüheler Horn. From here, the official cycle route leads over 9.4 kilometres to the mountain station at around 1,670 m - i.e. almost 1,160 metres in altitude, with an average gradient of 12%. Some of the ramps are significantly steeper, with gradients of up to 22% in the final section. After just a few minutes, the gradient begins to increase brutally. Kilometre after kilometre, the even gradient and constant pace demand maximum concentration. There are signs along the route showing the remaining distance and the percentage gradient - both a motivation and a warning.
The view becomes more spectacular with every metre of ascent: the Wilder Kaiser, Großvenediger and the Hohe Tauern come into view. A panoramic viewpoint awaits at the top - and the feeling of having conquered a true classic. Ideal for ambitious riders with mountain legs and mental strength. Tip: Start early in the morning - cool tarmac, hardly any people, maximum enjoyment.
