This challenging tour starts right on our doorstep. Where others have to travel first, the adventure begins for you: bike-in, bike-out on Lake Längsee. This tour combines perfect tarmac with crisp climbs and a backdrop steeped in history.

The route

  • Warm-up at Längsee: We start at the monastery and enjoy the first few kilometres along the glistening Längsee. A short stop at the Georgium winery is ideal for a first refreshment or as motivation for the return journey.
  • Through the heart of Carinthia: the route leads via Althofen to Guttaring. Take a short break at the "Field of Stone Lentils" - a place where geology and history come alive.
  • The climb: After travelling through the Görtschitztal valley, things get serious. From Eberstein, the challenging ascent into the mountains of the Saualpe begins. Endurance and strength are required here as you make up metres and metres towards the summit.
  • The goal in sight: At around 1,500 metres above sea level, you reach the Steinerhütte. You will be rewarded with a breathtaking panorama and the certainty that you have conquered the region's royal stage.
  • Descent & coasting: This is followed by a rapid descent to Brückl. The last few kilometres are a relaxed ride along the Gurk and via St. Veit back to St. Georgen Abbey, where a well-earned rest awaits you in our gardens.
