Funes and Val Gardena
Road bike tour to Villnöss and Val Gardena
You start at the Sporthotel Exclusive in San Vigilio and follow the Val Badia road to San Martino in Badia. This is where the challenging ascent to the Würzjoch begins. The entire ascent alternates between forest and meadows and you can enjoy the unique South Tyrolean mountain scenery.
The Würzjoch lies at an altitude of 2003 metres and connects the Gadertal valley with the Eisacktal valley. After a breather, follow the country road through the picturesque Villnöss Valley and via Gufidaun to Klausen. Visit the medieval alleyways and take a well-earned coffee break.
Continue along the steadily ascending country road through Val Gardena. You pass the glamorous winter sports resorts of Ortisei, Selva and Santa Cristina. The serpentines wind their way upwards through dense coniferous forest until you reach Plan de Gralba. Follow the pass road in an easterly direction until you reach the Gardena Pass. The Gardena Pass lies at an altitude of 2121 metres and connects the Gardena Valley with the Val Badia.
After a short break, take the descent towards Corvara. Switchback after switchback follows. Some of the hairpin bends are very narrow, but the road surface is excellent. You pass Colfosco, Corvara, La Villa and follow the Val Badia country road out of the valley to Zwischenwasser. There you turn right to San Vigilio and follow the road to the Sporthotel exclusive.
