Postalm - circular route via Hallein
Postalm road bike tour
This road bike tour leads from Fuschl am See along the gently ascending main road towards St. Gilgen. On the subsequent descent, you are rewarded with a marvellous view of Lake Wolfgangsee. From St. Gilgen, you cycle along Lake Wolfgangsee to Strobl. Shortly after Strobl, the route continues along a small stream on a slightly ascending road to the toll booth. Even after the toll booth, the route continues to climb gently for about a kilometre. It then becomes noticeably steeper. The following hairpin bends are signposted and marked with altitude information. At around 1200 metres, turn left towards Abtenau and after a short descent you have reached the Postalm area. You cross the car park the size of a football pitch and soon find yourself on a small ascent that leads to Lienbachsattel 1 at 1190 m. Now you cycle through the high plateau in a steady up and down before you have to tackle some steeper sections shortly before Lienbachsattel 2. Then it's a rapid descent down into the Lammertal valley.
Once you reach Voglau, turn right and ride out through a valley to Golling and from there on to Hallein. From Hallein, the route continues towards Ebenau. This is where the last strenuous section of the tour begins. Through the Wiestal valley to Hof near Salzburg, you cover another 280 metres in altitude over almost 20 kilometres, almost all of which is uphill. There is also a somewhat steeper ascent. Near the Salzburgring, you rejoin the main road, which leads directly to Fuschl am See. From Hof near Salzburg, the route is all downhill.
