Gravel Odyssey Bregenzerwald Allgäu

An exciting tour in the peaceful border region between Austria and Germany. Romantic mountain villages and valleys, as well as varied gravel paths over the hills of the foothills of the Alps.

Tour route: Mellau - Schönenbach - Sibratsgfäll - Rohrmoostal - Obermaiselstein - Sonthofen - Lecknertal - Hittisau - Bregenzerache - Andelsbuch - Bezegg - Mellau

On tarmac we reach the beautifully situated Vorsäßsiedlung Schönenbach. There begins a gravel section to Sibratsgfäll and on into Rohrmoostal. In Germany, the route continues on small tarmac roads to Sonthofen. We reach the Alpe Scheidwang with a crisp ascent at the end. Partly on single trails, we descend through the impressive Lecknertal valley to Hittisau. There you can enjoy coffee and cake in the village square before descending over a small hill into the Bregenzerache valley. We follow the gravel track to Egg and then Andelsbuch, where the last short ascent of the day leads over the Bezegg to Bezau. Bezegg was the site of the former court of the Bregenzerwald "Farmers' Republic". In Mellau we have earned a refreshment at the Café Deli.
