Lose your heart in the Ore Mountains
The name itself sounds like an adventure: Ore Mountains. You’ll find yourself enjoying a sense of exhilaration on the asphalt and adventures on the dusty gravel. The region, which has been on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 2019, surprises with geological and historical highlights along quiet roads. The unique cultural landscape serves up a range of road biking possibilities on the German-Czech border.
The most well-known circular tour in the diverse network of routes is undoubtedly the Stoneman Miriquidi Road. It covers a distance of 290 km through the Eger Graben in the Czech Republic and along the fault wedge in the Ore Mountains: an altitude of 4,900 metres, 13 mercilessly steep serpentine ascents, centuries-old mining traditions and the sporting legacy of the Ore Mountains. From A for Altenberg to O for Oberwiesenthal. A particularly special highlight are the guided Stoneman tours with cycling sport legend Olaf Ludwig. Yet the region can also get your pulse racing and the lactic acid flowing beyond the Stoneman – and away from the asphalted roads!
