Passo Tre Croci
The Passo Tre Croci connects Schluderbach with Cortina d'Ampezzo and offers a quiet, even ascent with a marvellous view of Cristallo and Sorapis. The three stone crosses at the top of the pass give it its name - ideal for connoisseurs, photographers and as a connecting pass in the Dolomites.
The road bike tour to the Passo Tre Croci begins in Schluderbach, idyllically situated between Toblach and Cortina. The starting point is around 1,430 metres above sea level - from here you first cycle slightly uphill through wooded terrain towards Misurina before the actual ascent begins at the turn-off to Lago di Misurina. The Passo Tre Croci (1,805 m) is not a brutal climb, but it is constantly demanding: over around 13 kilometres, you gain around 500 metres in altitude, with average gradients of between 4 and 6%.
The road is well maintained, often quiet and offers magnificent views of the surrounding Dolomites - including Cristallo, Sorapis and the nearby Three Peaks. The sweeping views of Cortina d'Ampezzo just before the top of the pass are particularly rewarding. On the saddle itself, three stone crosses are reminders of an old pilgrimage site - today a perfect place for a short break. Early in the morning or late in the afternoon, the road is particularly quiet, the light is soft and the Dolomites are at their best.

The pass can be travelled all year round as it is an important link between the Höhlenstein Valley (Lake Misurina) and Cortina. It is comparatively little travelled, especially in comparison to the Dolomite classics such as Giau or Sella.
A real insider tip at Passo Tre Croci is the short but rewarding detour to Lago di Sorapis - one of the most impressive mountain lakes in the Dolomites with milky turquoise water in front of rugged rock faces.
