Furkelpass

The Furkelpass connects the Pustertal and Gadertal valleys and offers a short but steep ascent with views of the Dolomites. Little traffic, good roads and the proximity to Kronplatz make it ideal for a morning road bike tour. Particularly rewarding: the view from the "Concordia 2000" peace bell.

Start and finish location
San Vigilio di Marebbe

The road bike tour from San Vigilio di Marebbe to the Furkelpass is short but challenging - and absolutely worthwhile in terms of the scenery. From the village centre at an altitude of around 1,200 m, the route leads directly uphill. Over a distance of around 7.7 kilometres, the road climbs around 570 metres in altitude - the average gradient is 7-8%, with individual ramps reaching over 12%. The road is well tarmaced, relatively narrow, but mostly quiet as the pass has little through traffic.

As the altitude increases, the view of the Dolomites opens up, especially the peaks of the Fanes Group and the Kronplatz. Once at the top, you can take a short detour to the Furkelhütte hut or the Kronplatz cable car station - here you can enjoy a fantastic panoramic view. All in all, a relatively short but intense pass - ideal as a morning tour or as part of a longer stage. Particularly attractive at sunrise or on quiet weekdays.
