May - October
Compared with other Alpine valleys, the Tannheimer has a very long biking season. You can expect to be able to get your bike out of the cellar at the beginning of May to start your first training units.
Racing biking in the Tannheimer Valley
This region has much to offer for road cyclists. Compared to other alpine valleys, this Tyrolean high valley in 1.100 metres above sea level boasts a much longer cycling season. The first training sessions start here already in April. Flat sections of routes, short and longer passes; racy as well as curvy downhill runs are part of the training tours.
Racing biking tours around the Tannheimer Valley
There are 3 short passes taking you to Oberjoch, Pfronten and Weissenbach bei Reutte. There is something for everyone here, from the circuit basically on the level around the Grünten to high alpine ascents over the Hahntennjoch. Extended tours from the Tannheimer Valley take you into the surrounding regions such as the Allgäu, Lake Constance, or the Arlberg.

To demonstrate the diversity of the racing bike rides here, there is no better tour than the long one that is the bike marathon. The 224 km route covering 3300 vertical metres takes you from the Alpine foreland into the high mountains.
Tannheimer bike marathon
The Tannheimer bike marathon also offers beginners and leisure bikers a shorter circuit of 130 km, covering 930 vertical metres. Anyone who wants to learn one or the other trick should try the training weeks with former cycling pro Marcel Wüst during Whitsun 2016 as well as the tours with Marcel Wüst and Gerrit Glomser during the days in the run-up to the cycle marathon.

From this Tyrolean high valley, you can set out in all directions of the compass. After just a few kilometres you find yourself on the trail of King Ludwig in Bavaria. The ruined Falkenstein castle with its wonderful view into the Allgäu region and the Tyrolean mountains stands in Pfronten. After that, the route takes you past lakes and the historic town of Füssen, right to the fairytale castle of Neuschwanstein. Next to this sits enthroned the Schloss Hohenschwangau, surrounded by the Alpsee and the Schwansee. After so much culture, the ride over the Gaichtpass back home is easy.
